One of the exciting ventures that you can try in Bali is shopping. While on holiday in Bali, you will see a diverse selection of goods. Either goods for personal use or souvenirs. So, are you interested in shopping during your holiday in Bali? If you answer yes before shopping, find out on a list of 10 Kuta shopping tips that you must know.

1. Limited Car Parking Space In Kuta

Limited Car Parking Space In Kuta

Number one on the 10 Kuta shopping tips that you need to know. There is a limited number of car parking slots on the streets of Legian or Kuta. The Kuta area is Bali’s most famous tourist spot, especially Kuta Beach. Also, Kuta has become the leading tourist destination in Bali. Therefore Kuta tourism area is always crowded with tourists visiting. Consequently, it causes road traffic congestion to happen daily, especially in the afternoon. Besides road traffic congestion, car parks in the Kuta area are also very limited.

Therefore, if you want to shop in the Legian area or the art market in Kuta, you need to find the distance of the shopping spot that you like to visit from your hotel. If the location of street shopping in Kuta, Bali, is within walking distance, it is recommended that you walk to the shopping spot.

However, if the Kuta shopping street location is far away from your hotel, getting a meter taxi is better. Alternatively, you can get a car rental with a driver in Bali. By using a meter taxi or car hire with a driver service in Bali, you do not have to think about finding a parking area. Also, you do not get hampered by road traffic congestion. If you can ride a motorcycle, get a motorbike rental, which is easy to get in Bali. The motorbike rental price is around IDR 100.000 for 24 hours of usage.

2. Keep Your Smile While Bargaining

Keep Your Smile While Bargaining

Unlikely shopping at shopping malls provides a fixed rate. If you want to shop in the Legian street area and the Kuta art market, you need bargaining expertise to get the right price. Bargaining expertise, for me, is the essential thing on the list of 10 Kuta shopping tips. Because you are buying stuff in a tourist area, the cost of goods has increased to 300%. However, you need to know that there are local shopping norms that you must obey.

Be polite and friendly to the seller when you bid. Also, don’t get mad and compare merchandise prices with other places. At the time of bidding, keep your smile and, if you can, make some jokes. If you maintain your courtesy, the seller will be more patient in serving you when bidding.

For starters, try to bid an 80% reduction of the price offered and wait for the seller’s response. When you make a bid, and the seller agrees with the amount you requested, you should pay for the item you are bidding on. Therefore, don’t make any bid offer if you do not want to buy the goods.

3. Always Say Thank You

Always Say Thank You

If you are not going to buy things due to bargaining, the price is not dealt with by the shopkeeper. Alternatively, you want to look at the store’s merchandise. Before leaving the store, please always thank the seller or the shopkeeper. So you will not feel awkward when you want to return to the store you left behind because the price is lower compared to other stores.

4. Bring Cash

Not all shops or sellers at the Kuta art market or stores in the street of the Kuta area provide payment by credit card or debit card. Therefore, you should bring enough Cash. However, it would be different if you shopped for Balinese souvenirs at a department store. You can pay by credit or debit card at the department store. Please make sure you ask in advance before making any payment by credit card if there is an additional charge for using a credit card for payment.

5. Shopping In The Morning

Shopping In The Morning

The best tip for cheap shopping in Bali is to shop in the morning. If you want to buy things at the traditional art market in Kuta or souvenir shops on the street, I suggest you go shopping in the morning when the art market or store opens. On the island of Bali, there is a traditional custom or belief called Pegarus. Pegarus means the first payment after the shop is open. Balinese traders have trust. If they can sell their product early in the morning after the store opens, many buyers will buy things in their shop for the entire day.

Therefore, your chances of getting a lower price are significant when you shop in the morning after the store opens. The Balinese merchant will decide to get a small profit margin on their sales at the beginning of the day.

6. Don’t Want To Bargain, Go To Department Store

Discovery Shopping Mall Kuta

I am confident that not all of you have the expertise or the desire to make a bid while shopping in Bali. Well, you do not like to bargain when buying Balinese souvenirs or other goods. Then I suggest you shop at the department store that sells Balinese merchandise because the product’s price in the department store is fixed.

For your information, a large shopping malls in Kuta, such as Kuta Beachwalk, Kuta Lippo Mall, and Discovery Shopping Mall Kuta. Shopping malls in Kuta offer a large car parking area at an hourly price.

Therefore, finding a shopping location in Kuta, Bali that offers low prices is very difficult! If you decide to buy goods that are required to be made to order, ask for agreement from the seller, and deal on terms to make changes to the products if the item you requested is not as you demand. Also, try to make a contract with the shop, and only pay a small down payment. Pay off when your order is finished, and according to what you ordered. Asking for a small down payment is tricky unless the store knows you well. At least give it a try!

9. Check The Quality Of Goods – Kuta Shopping Tips

Check The Quality Of Goods

Before you choose to buy, check the condition of the goods you want to buy if you do not understand the variety of assets you wish to purchase. Hi, I’m Wayan Suadnyana, a Bali travel specialist and one of the writers of Wira Tour Bali. I’ve spent 24+ years working in Bali tourism, helping travelers plan smoother trips with clear, practical info, not guesswork.

I graduated from Bali Tourism College (STP Bali) in 2001. Since then, I’ve combined on-the-ground experience with traveler-first writing. My focus is simple: help you pick the right place, the right route, and the right plan so you don’t waste time or end up at the wrong location.

What you can expect from my guides

Accurate, decision-ready details: prices, opening hours, locations, and “what to expect” notes

Transparent updates: I use last-checked dates and clear disclaimers because schedules and fees can change

Local, practical tips: access points, parking, timing, and small details that matter on the day

I’m especially familiar with Bali trip logistics like private car + driver routes, day tours, water sports, rafting, fast boat planning, and cultural stops across the island. I write for travelers who want Bali to feel easy, not confusing.

When I’m not writing or handling guest requests, I’m usually out exploring Bali, often on my bike. That firsthand time on the road keeps my recommendations realistic.
