The History of Taman Ujung Floating Palace (Waterpaleis)

Before you travel to Taman Ujung Floating Palace Karangasem, it would be tremendous if you comprehended its short history.

The Royal King of Karangasem, I Gusti Bagus Jelantik, who holds the title of Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, built the Taman Ujung Water Floating Palace in 1901. The first finished pool is called ”Kolam Dirah,” which means dump pool. During the kingdom era, the dump pool was used to drown people who were judged by mastering black magic.

Furthermore, in 1909, the Karangasem king requested that a Dutch architect named Van Den Hentz and a Chinese architect named Loto Ang improve the Dirah pond, which became King Karangasem’s resting place. In addition to using Dutch and Chinese architecture, Balinese architects from the Karangasem Kingdom area also aided in the construction of the Taman Ujung Soekasada.

The Dirah pond area was used as the King’s resting place, and the surrounding area entertained guests during the Karangasem kingdom era. Furthermore, the construction of the Taman Ujung Soekasada was completed in 1921. The Taman Ujung Water Floating Palace was known as the Waterpaleis in Karangasem during the Dutch East Indies era.

When visiting Taman Ujung Soekasada Karangasem, it is not exciting to see only the pond. If you don’t mind climbing about 100 stairs, you will see a pillar building without a roof at the top.

From the top of the pillar building without a roof, you will observe the scenery privilege offered by Taman Ujung Soekasada attractions.

In the southeast, you will notice a blue sea scenery and Ujung beach. On the east side, when you look down. You will see the charm and uniqueness of Ujung Soekasada’s Waterpaleis, a fantastic garden layout, an enormous pool, and unique architecture. Pond Layout

In Taman Ujung Floating Palace, three large ponds are located in one place, and each pond is separate. One collection is in the southern area, and two are in the northern region. In the middle of the south pond is a building called Bale Bengong. For your information, Bale Bengong-style buildings in Bali don’t use walls, only pillars and roofs.

The north pond is bigger than the south pond. In its middle area, a permanent bridge crosses the pond. In the middle of the bridge, a building was used as the Karangasem king’s resting place. The King’s resting structure seems to be floating, so the visitor calls the site Taman Ujung Floating Palace.

The Pool Depth of The Taman Ujung Water Palace

Taman Ujung Water Palace Unique Architecture

Noble Waterpaleis In Bali
Noble Waterpaleis In Karangasem Bali

One of the best things to see at Taman Ujung Palace is the Karangasem king’s resting palace because its architecture is unique. It combines medieval European and Balinese architecture.

The walls of the King’s resting building are decorated with colorful glass, representing European architecture. The king’s restroom windows show lotus flowers.

The Taman Ujung Noble Water Palace architecture does not fully represent the original. Various historical events damaged it. During the Japanese occupation of Bali, the local soldiers used unique iron fences as weapons.

In 1963, Mount Agung, the tallest active volcano in Bali, erupted, damaging the palace. In 2000, the Karangasem kingdom family and the Karangasem regency government improved the Taman Ujung Water Palace area without changing its original shape.
